Blon Delores Meneweather's Obituary
Blon Delores Meneweather was born June 25, 1936 in Marshall, TX to the union of the late Charles D. Meneweather and Sonnie L. Meneweather. She was their only child. Blon graduated high school in 1954 from St. Peter’s Academy in Dallas, TX. She graduated with an Associate’s Degree in 1956 from Los Angeles College in Los Angeles, CA. While attending college Blon became a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Blon attended Greater New Zion Baptist Church in Dallas, TX and then later attended St. Anthony’s where she was a faithful volunteer. She married the late Aloysius Joseph Foster and to that union one son was born, Anthony Charles Foster. Blon was always involved with activities with her son while he attended school. She always found time to volunteer at the schools he attended. Whether it was sports or school programs, there was rarely a time that Anthony did not see his mother in the audience bursting with pride. Blon loved her son, granddaughters and greatgrandchildren dearly. One of her happiest moments was when she traveled to Omaha, Nebraska for a precious weekend with her granddaughters and greatgrandchildren. Blon was strong-willed, had strong opinions and was very independent. She lived her life unapologetically and was rarely influenced by the opinions of others. She loved God and insured that her son did as well. Blon reared Anthony to be independent and taught him to reach his goals. She taught him to have dreams and to follow them, she let him know that there was nothing he couldn’t accomplish with the guidance of God. To her credit Anthony holds two Bachelor Degrees, is an Air Force Veteran, and enjoys a formidable career expanding over 15 years in the helping field. Tony fondly remembers his mother giving him his first camera. Because of that gift, he is an accomplished photographer and videographer. Blon was an excellent mother who Tony loved. She sacrificed for her son and was deeply proud of him. She reiterated how proud she was of him during their last visit this past Thanksgiving. They shared a love and relationship that was impermeable regardless of his residence in Michigan. Blon never met a stranger. She had many friends whom she loved and loved her. She shared a lifelong friendship with Mildred Allen and her husband Arthur. They were neighbors in Dixson Circle in South East Dallas. They reared their children together, partied together, and talked to each other practically every day. They were so close that their children loving called each other’s mother “aunt”. The Allen family; Junior, Anthony, Latosha, Arthur, and Mildred were instrumental in helping her son Anthony who lived in Michigan with coordinating caregivers and her over all care as her health began to fail. It was Perita Brooks of WKM Healthcare Inc. and BK who provided Blon’s daily care. Lamarr Vines was another dear friend who loved Blon dearly. He considered her his second mother. He would take her to her favorite casino, a pass time she loved. She remained an active fisherman, traveler, and bowler until her health failed. She loved to fish with her aunt Willie B. Watkins at the Lake of the Pines near Marshall, TX. Blon traveled for her job and for pleasure. One of her favorite trips was a cruise she took with her mother Sonnie Hudson. Blon was an avid bowler. She bowled for over 30 years on several leagues in the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metropolitan area. Blon had an extensive career with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ (DHHS) Head Start program as a Children’s Family Program Specialist where she made many friends. Blon received many accolades and recognition while employed with DHHS for her exemplary work. Blon retired in 2005 after 33 years of service. She was very proud of her granddaughters Tanya and Toni for the academic and career accomplishments. Likewise, she was very happy to be a great grandmother of 5 beautiful children. Blon departed this life on Thursday, April 14, 2016. She was proceeded in death by her parents Charles D. Meneweather and Sonnie L. Hudson.
