Bob J. St. John's Obituary
Bob St. John, born Jan. 10, 1937, died peacefully on Jan. 12, 2017. He grew up in Paris and later Dallas, and graduated from the University of North Texas. He soon went on to a 37 year career at the Dallas Morning News as a sportswriter and then a columnist. Additionally, he wrote 17 books, including a biography of Tom Landry. He was honored with numerous awards, including Distinguished Alumnus of both North Dallas High School and the University of North Texas. Bob loved his family and as a young father spent time with his five boys, introducing them to his passion for sports, his love of South Padre Island, and training them in the art of great humor. He was a devoted husband to his wife Sandra and took her numerous times to Paros, a Greek Island of great beauty and even more astonishing hospitality. Bob was preceded in death by his parents Edwin and Verna St. John and his sister Norma Schaeffer. He is survived by his wife Sandra Rings St. John, his brother Bill (Doris) St. John, five sons and their wives: Robin, Bryan (D’Lynn), Terry, Scott, and Todd (Page), and eight grandchildren: Lauren, Callie, Taylor, Christopher, Scout, Avery, Reese, and Hutch. The family would like to acknowledge the staff of Whispering Pines for their kindness and cheer. A memorial service will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 17 at 2:30 PM in the Memorial Chapel at Restland in Dallas. A reception will follow. Memorial contributions may be made to Happy Hill Farm in Granbury, Texas, or the local Salvation Army.
