Bob McDonald's Obituary
Bob Ray McDonald, aged 89, passed away on August 7, 2024, in Dallas, Texas. Born on November 10, 1934, in Leonard, Texas. Bob was a man of charismatic presence, known for his outgoing personality, humor, and love for storytelling.
Bob graduated from Leonard High School and furthered his education on a football scholarship at The University of Kansas, before attending North Texas State University and East Texas State. His professional life was as dynamic as his personality, beginning at Mobile Oil Corporation from 1962 to 1969. He then contributed significantly to the construction and investment sectors, working with his brother-in-law, Richard H. Sikes, of Richard H. Sikes Construction Company and JMS (Jackson, McDonald, Sikes) Investment Company in the 1970s. Bob was the visionary behind the new strip shopping centers, Kingsley Crossing and Peachtree Crossing, before founding McDonald Homes, Inc. in 1976, building new homes in the DFW metroplex, later evolving into Bob McDonald Company, inc., specializing in home construction and remodeling.
His commitment to the community was evident through his involvement with several organizations including the Dallas Builders Association, the National Association of Home Builders, the National Association of the Remodeling Industry, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the Lake Highlands Exchange Club, and the business development board of Banc-Texas White Rock.
Bob was a fervent sports enthusiast, devotedly supporting local teams like the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers, and Dallas Mavericks, and he also enjoyed watching golf and horse racing. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends, making every gathering memorable with his unique spirit.
Bob is survived by his wife of 63 years, Sondra McDonald; daughters, Lori Moore and Kelley Samples, sons-in-law, David Moore and Aaron Samples; grandchildren, Linds Moore, Sarah Hoover (husband, Josh Hoover), Travis Culpepper (wife, Samantha Culpepper), Avery Samples, and Ella Samples; great grandchildren, Hendrix Culpepper, Lydia Hoover, Atlas Culpepper, and Truett Hoover; and sister, Joanne Eaves. He also leaves behind several nieces and a nephew. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Mitchell McDonald and Myrtle Harris McDonald, and his sister, Dorothy Sikes.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 24th at 2pm in Wildwood Chapel at Restland Funeral Home, located at 13005 Greenville Ave., Dallas, TX 75243. Restland Funeral Home is assisting the family during this time.
