Bobbie Jean Tyler's Obituary
Bobbie Jean Ross Tyler, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, went to be with her Lord on March 1, 2018.Born Oct. 17, 1926 in Vinita, Oklahoma, Bobbie attended elementary school in Oswego and high school in Partridge, Kansas. She received a degree from Emporia State Teacher’s College (now Emporia State University), where she met her husband, Albert N. Tyler. Al, a soldier in the Army Air Corps, had recently returned from the Philippines, where he was stationed during World War II. They married on Dec. 21, 1947, and soon after moved to Lawrence, Kansas. Bobbie taught elementary school in Kansas City and Lawrence, while Al finished his college degree.Bobbie and Al moved to Texas when Al began working for Sun Oil Company. Over the next several years, they lived in New Mexico, Alabama, Louisiana and San Antonio, moving often as Al’s geological work required. They settled in Dallas in 1958. During this time Bobbie and Al had three children who occupied Bobbie’s time and energies. A lifelong educator, like her father, she was active in the school activities of her children and volunteered as a teacher assistant at Lake Highlands Elementary School once they left home. In 2011, they moved to the CC Young Overlook community.A member of Lake Highlands United Methodist Church for almost 60 years, Bobbie taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. She was an active volunteer throughout her life, including work at the CC Young’s nursing home.Because of her strong Christian faith, Bobbie faced death fearlessly until losing her battle with lung cancer.Bobbie is survived by her husband of 70 years, Albert N. Tyler; children Jonnie Jo Tyler and husband Robin Cotton, of Springtown, Texas; Kathy Tyler and partner Woody Widrow, of Austin; Rodney Wayne Tyler and wife Kay Tunstill, of Cedar Hill, Texas; grandchildren Travis Tyler and Hannah Tyler; and a myriad of cousins.A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 9, at Lake Highlands United Methodist Church in Dallas.
