Bobby Gene Ellard's Obituary
Bobby Gene Ellard, age 84, passed away peacefully at his lifelong home in Richardson, Texas on July 18, 2022. He was born on March 21, 1938 in Dallas.
Perhaps known best for his sharp wit and quick humor, Bob dealt with the world on his own terms. No matter whether it was his way or the highway though, he cherished the long-lasting bonds formed with his closest friends and truly loved those in his extended family. If you didn’t always hear it directly from him at first, you later discovered that he had been bragging about you and singing your praises to others all along.
Bob loved to travel, especially with his sister and brother-in-law Linda and AC or his long-time partner-in-crime, Charlotte. Together they clearly intended to see the entire country having been to Alaska, Hawaii, Colorado, California, Missouri, Michigan, Massachusetts, New York and all over Texas, among many other destinations. He always respected the country’s service men and women and had a keen interest in visiting the war memorials established in their honor. That said, it is now safe to reveal that one of his favorite trips was with his buddy Roach to Bar Harbor, Maine and a certain establishment known as “The Thirsty Whale”.
When he wasn’t working the day’s crossword puzzle, Bobby’s other great passion was music. He himself was both a banjo and guitar player and would frequently insist that you stop what you were doing and listen to a particular solo or great performance. He shared music with his son Adam, a music educator and saxophone player, and his other son Scott with whom he spent time in NYC at the local jazz spot.
Bobby was preceded in death by his mother and father Etna Mae and Eugene Ellard and will be laid to rest next to them and his grandparents at Restland Cemetery in Richardson. He is survived by his sister Linda Hill, brother Joe Neal and his wife Ellen, two sons Adam and Scott and his grandchildren Aerin and Nicholson and a whole host of nieces and nephews………but most of them are Aggies.
We will miss him as our source of laughter and stories and we will remember him every day as such a huge part of our history. To use his words: “Near Perfect”
