Bobby Richard Johnson was called home by the Lord on December 31, 2019. He was born in Dallas, Texas on April 14, 1931, was raised in East Dallas by his grandmother, and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School. He married Mary Jean Lancaster and raised 8 kids. Bob joined the US Air Force in 1951 and served as a Master Sergeant and Weapons Specialist, and taught survival skills to Air Force pilots. Over his 20 year career, he served at many Air Force bases, including Carswell Air Force Base in Ft Worth, and overseas in Libya and Thailand during the Vietnam War. After retiring from the USAF, Bob continued to serve his country by working for the US Post Office for another 20 years. In 1986, he married Sharla Black, merged two families, and could be found riding motorcycles and spending time with friends and family at their home in Garland and their vacation home on Lake Tawakoni. Bob was a lifelong hunter and fisherman, loved football and baseball, raising pigeons, and dogs. Above all, he loved and was proud of his family and his country.
Bob is survived by his wife Sharla Black Johnson, and his 5 children: Bobby Johnson, Michael Johnson (Brenda), Debbie (David Deaton), Donna (Dan Sanders), Dotty (Tom Wagner), Gay Lynn (Greg Johnson), Burton Black (Melanie), Royce Black, their combined families, his 22 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, and many loved nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends and neighbors at the viewing from 6 – 8 Friday evening, January 3 at Restland Memorial Park on Greenville Avenue in Dallas, Texas. Family and friends are invited to a graveside service, scheduled for 12 noon on Saturday January 4, 2020, at Restland Cemetery. It will be officiated by Paul Dorsey of Lakepointe Baptist Church.
