Bobby Lee Townsend's Obituary
Bobby L. (Bob) Townsend was born in Durant, Oklahoma on January 6, 1933 to Vernon L. (Buck) Townsend and Lillian Lewis Townsend. He died on June 2, 2017 in Dallas, TX. Bob did his undergraduate work at the University of Oklahoma and Southeastern Oklahoma State University and received his master’s degree from Southern Methodist University. He was married to Madeline (Lynn) Stevens on July 27, 1952 in Durant, Oklahoma. They had four children. Bob retired from Texas Instruments after 37 years of service. After retirement, he served the City of Richardson as Mayor, Mayor Pro Tem and City Councilman for 16 years. He was named Citizen of the Year by the Richardson Chamber of Commerce in 2016. He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Kurt Stevens Townsend. He is survived by his wife, Lynn; daughter, Valerie and husband Lewis McMahan, son, Kret and wife Robin Townsend, son Kevin and wife Jeri Townsend; former daughter-in-law, Margaret Townsend; grandsons, Michael McMahan and wife Amy, David McMahan and wife Corrie, Barrett Townsend, Jackson Townsend and Kyle Townsend; granddaughters, Adrian Kuykendall and husband Hunter, and Julie Townsend; five great-grandchildren – Parker, Maddie, Lewis, Melanie, Caroline McMahan and Kennedy Kuykendall. Memorial service for Bob will be held at 4:00 pm, Wednesday, June 7th, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church Richardson. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church of Richardson. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, at Restland Road, Dallas, TX 75243.
