Bonnie Jeanette Upton's Obituary
Bonnie Jeanette Upton Born 09/08/1945 Cleveland, Ohio Died 03/23/2010 Rowlett, Texas Parents: Bonnie Lou Stewart Vasil & John James Vasil of Huntsville, AL (both deceased) Bonnie moved to Huntsville when she was ten and graduated from Butler High School and Huntsville Business College. She spent three years working for NASA before moving to Dallas and joining the Secret Service. Bonnie enjoyed working for the Secret Service and made many life-long friends there. She also liked the times she worked with protective details for presidential candidates and worked support at national political conventions. This past week she and Thomas visited the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum which they enjoyed, especially as Bonnie had met President and Mrs. Bush. Bonnie retired in 2001 after 33 years service with the United States Secret Service as Administrative Officer, Dallas-Fort Worth Field Office. Bonnie was an avid rose hobbyist and competitive exhibitor for more than 20 years. She and her husband exhibited at more than 50 American Rose Society shows at the local, regional, and national level – winning more than 250 trophies and 135 ARS Certificates. Bonnie also edited a rose society newsletter and had written several nationally published articles. Bonnie was a great joy to be around. She had a quick humorous wit and was an excellent story-teller. Her true-to-life stories based on her “mishaps” with driving, dirt bikes, private pilot training, cooking, computers, electrical appliances, gadgets, etc. were very memorable and many times family and friends would want repeats of her entertaining stories. Only a few family members could explain why there were sweet potatoes on the ceiling or how she got a garbage can wrapped around her car’s tire. Bonnie is survived by her: Husband – Thomas Upton, Ed.D. (Rowlett, Texas) Brother – James A. Vasil and his wife Cheryl D. Parker, RN, Ph.D. (Dallas, Texas) Sister – Laura Leah Vasil Michaels (Plano, Texas) Mother-in-Law – Jeanene Upton (Grand Saline, Texas) Sister-in-Law – Leil Upton Gross (North Richland Hills, Texas) Sister-in-Law – Laurel Upton (Mineola, Texas) Brother-in-Law – Richard Upton and his wife Cindy (Grand Saline, Texas) Bonnie also enjoyed and was very proud of her 3 nieces, 4 nephews, and 1 great niece.
