Bradford "Brad" Frank Scoggins' Obituary
On the morning of January 1st, 2023, Brad passed away in the comfort of his home in Austin, TX. He was 53 years old.
Brad Scoggins was born in Dallas, Texas on December 8th, 1969. He was the first child, and only son of Lillian and J.R. Scoggins, Jr.
Little “Boogie” played soccer and enjoyed Boy Scouts. At a young age, Brad had a strong curiosity of how things worked. He would take things apart and put them back together, quite successfully. This curiosity spilled over to the new computer age that was happening.
He was gifted a TI-99/4A computer and this began his love of technology. From writing programs to playing the first video games, he enjoyed learning about the computer. In high school he began a business with a friend to outfit cars with speakers, woofers, etc. Again, mechanically inclined with everything he touched. This later led him into his career in the technology/manufacturing space.
Brad attended Texas A&M in College Station, and was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. He worked for various restaurants in the area and would say he fully understood the hard work his Papou (Greek for “grandfather”) had put in while working in his family’s restaurant. Over the years he developed a love of spicy foods…the hotter, the better. It was rare for him to have a meal where hot sauce was not included. He also enjoyed smoking meats and barbecuing in his pastime.
He ultimately built and ran an Austin based electronics manufacturing company supplying many industries, including communications, telecom, transportation, security and defense. He employed several of his lifelong friends, many of whom became family, and enjoyed sharing life with them.
His love of dogs led him to have several over his life. From the little chihuahua, Oscar, he had as a child, Buck the pom, during college, Bo his first yellow lab, and to Max (aka Maxy Bear) his latest fur child.
Brad was preceded in death by his father, J.R. Scoggins, Jr.
Brad is survived by his son, Nicholas Scoggins; mother, Lillian Scoggins; sister, Jennifer Green; and half-sister, Jami Scoggins, along with a large extended family of numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
A special thanks goes out to Dr. Marty Molina and Dr. Pat Coates for their exceptional care over these last few years.
A celebration of life has been scheduled for January 14th, at 2:00pm, at Restland Funeral Home, Memorial Chapel, 13005 Greenville Ave, Dallas, TX 75243. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in memory of Brad to Austin Pets Alive, 1156 West Cesar Chavez, Austin, TX 78703, https://donate.austinpetsalive.org/give/420815/#!/donation/checkout
