Brian Alfred Smith's Obituary
SMITH, BRIAN was born on November 30, 1936 in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, England, and passed away peacefully during the night in Dallas on November 28, 2012. A port city in North East England , situated on the River Tyne about nine miles from the North Sea, the area was a prime bombing target during World War II. Young Brian survived the frightening times along with his mother and father, John and Evelyn Smith, and his beloved grandmother, Harriet Ridsdale. Brian worked in the oil business as an engineer for more than 40 years. From humble beginnings, his career took him on adventures he could never have imagined as a boy. He worked in Europe, Africa, the Middle East and both North and South America. He had a passion for Venezuela and was totally captivated by its people and beauty. He left Venezuela in 2006 to retire in North Texas, settling in Frisco near his eldest son’s family. An avid golfer, he also loved to craft and build model ships. He was a fierce Newcastle United football fan and baffled the locals with the finer points of cricket. His wicked sense of humor made him a memorable guest at many a dinner table. Brian is survived by his son, Peter and daughter-in-law, Rachel , their two sons, James (17) and Matthew (15), and Yellow Labrador, Monty, his son Andy, and daughter-in-law, Lynnette; their children Isabel (9) and Emily (7) of Singapore. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, December 6, 2012 at 3:00 PM in the Wildwood Chapel at Restland Funeral Home in Richardson, Texas. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
