The tribute to Bruce does not mention the year he spent in England at St John's College, Durham. I was one of many who knew him there who are are saddened at his passing. It was fun to meet him again on his occasional visits to the UK; to tempt him to a glass of warm English beer (for which he had a liking) or to try (unsuccessfully as it turns out) to get him to visit a cricket match as a rest from all that baseball. However, as an Englishman I firmly believe there will be cricket matches in Heaven, so that is a pleasure that awaits him. RIP Baz Brooke

Bruce, Mary and I were co-workers at the Texas Instruments Computer Science Center that I had the privilege of managing. Bruce and Mary were strong contributors to the Center's technology base and patent portfolio. I cannot come to grips with Bruce's untimely passing. He deserved a much longer life. I remember the little get-togethers they hosted back after I started as a temp at TI in the late 80's – their little home had a little garden with windows to that garden in the middle of their home. Bruce and I go way back to his days as a graduate student in what was then the CIS Department at Ohio State. I was one of his professors. I fondly remember Bruce as both a fine student and a fine alumnus of OSU. He was on my advisory board during my term as department chair, and served other department chairs in the same capacity, providing his support and recommendations to improve our department over multiple decades. My sincerest condolences to Mary and the family. He will be missed by OSU's computer science family as well.

He was one of my first mentors at TI. I remember drinking Brews Flinchbrau at one of his parties. I thought that was the coolest name and he was the coolest scientist I knew. He went out of his way to visit me on one of his trips back from Notre Dame. He was always clever, funny, and caring! May his memory be for a blessing!

Bruce hired me to TI as a new college graduate. The experience at Bruce's lab has had a profound impact on me. He has been, above all, a tireless cheer leader for us. The thought of him not being with us is immensely sad. I remember at his retirement reception just a few years ago, he said he has gone to school for 30 years, worked 30 years, now he was ready to play 30 years.. The only comforting thought is, he has always lived his life to the fullest, surrounded by people who love him, respect him, and look up to him. Bruce, I know that you will continue to live up to your dream of "playing hard" and look after the people you love from above. You have left a place in our heart that no one can replace.

I cannot claim that I knew Bruce very well. I can attest however that he was always constructive and generous to me even in our limited interactions. For some thirty years, the main link between us was that he and I both obtained our PhD at The Ohio State University with the same adviser and laboratory. Recently Bruce and I became friends on Facebook, and it was fun to read his posts especially about his family and about running. My sincere condolences to his family.

It?s very hard for me to believe that Bruce isn?t with us. His memory is so real. I go back to before there was a Dad after his name and before there was a Mary formally with Bruce. Both of them are so real in my memory. I was absolutely certain that I had a picture of both of them at Ohio State to add to the posts. I looked and, of course, it wasn?t there. Then I tried to think of exactly where I had seen Bruce in the last 40 years. I was certain I had. The image was so clear. But that would be very unlikely and I couldn?t think of any possible place where we would?ve met in at least 27 years. But the image of Bruce is so real to me. As real as anyone I talked to yesterday. Bruce is gone and this has to be an impossibly painful time for his family. But all the wonderful things that Bruce did stay will stay in our memories as vividly as when they were formed. May those memories be Bruce?s blessings for us and may we bless Bruce for them.

Words fail to convey how deeply saddened we are at Bruce's passing. Bruce's family was his number one priority, and he was so proud of their accomplishments. In additional to his accomplishments in his professional career, he had many talents and interests which he shared with us e.g., – pictures taken on various trips, family events, allowing us to participate – his marathon adventures – sports – chronicles of the birds in the back yard His spirit of adventure and happy memories will thankfully be with us always.
