Bruce Wayne Gustafson's Obituary
Bruce Wayne Gustafson, born June 29, 1942 in Freeport, IL and passed away April 18, 2011 in Dallas, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents Mercedes and Wayne Gustafson and his sister Karen Horschke. He is survived by his wife Karen Gustafson, son Doug Gustafson, daughter Tara McWhirter and husband Desmond, daughter Julie Blackmon and husband John, grandchildren Carter and Benjamin Blackmon and Rose and Macy McWhirter, brother Barry Gustafson and wife Fran, sister Kay Pogemiller and husband Rick, and brother Keith Gustafson and wife Nancy. Bruce received his Masters Degree from Lehigh University in Metallurgy and Material Science, a Micro Engineering Degree, and a Bachelors Degree from the University of Illinois in Electrical Engineering. Bruce worked for Western Electric, AT&T, and Lucent Technologies, where he retired. Bruce was on the golf team at the University of Illinois, and continued to compete in golf tournaments and play as often as possible. Bruce loved sports of all kinds, and always helped coach the childrens’ sports. Bruce was a wonderful husband and great Dad, and he will be dearly missed. Bruce was not able to play golf the last few years, and we are positive Bruce is up in Heaven playing golf right now with a smile on his face. Family will receive friends on Thursday, April 21, 2011 from 6-8 PM at Restland Funeral Home. Services will be held on Friday, April, 22, 2011 at 12:30 PM at Restland Wildwood Chapel. In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Arc, www.thearc.org.
