Buren Ray Turner's Obituary
Ray Turner passed in peace on Tuesday, 29 January, at the age of 85 with his beloved wife Joy and daughter Ann by his side. Ray was the loving husband of 62 years to Joy White Turner and the loving father to Rhonda Sistrunk, Ann Gann, Randy Turner, and proud grandfather to Erin Wessley, Ron and Michael Sistrunk, Jack and Max Gann, and Anthony Turner.Ray was born on 25 April 1933 to Buren Giles and Sally Marie Turner in Floyd, Texas. Ray was an avid reader and was doted on by all of his aunts and uncles who provided Ray with books from a very early age. After obtaining a degree in Accounting at East Texas State University, Ray became an analyst for the Army Security Agency and went on to become a CPA for the Texas Northern Railroad and General Aluminum for over 50 years.Ray and Joy met on a blind date in 1957 and were married in 1958. Ray was the personification of a family man. He was an outstanding husband, father, grandfather, brother, and son. He adored his children and grandchildren and especially enjoyed watching them participate in sports, music, theater–activities of any kind.Once their children were raised, Ray and Joy were able to travel making 12 trips to Hawaii and an amazing 6 trips to Disney Land with their grandchildren. Ray loved Christmas and was awarded year after year for the best yard decorations.After retirement, Ray enjoyed reading the Dallas Morning News every day and making sure there wasn’t an errant leaf in his yard. He enjoyed attending the First Methodist Church of Richardson, his Fellowship classes, volunteering for ARK House, and his neighborhood Volunteers In Patrol.Ray is preceded in death by his parents and survived by his caring wife Joy; daughters Rhonda Sistrunk and Eddie Lama, Ann Gann and spouse Tom, son Randy Turner; grandchildren Erin Wessley and fiancé Bradley Kee, Ron Sistrunk and fiancé Felice Montoya, Michael Sistrunk, Jack Gann, Max Gann, Anthony Turner; brothers Kenneth and spouse Sue, and Larry and spouse Sue, plus numerous nieces and nephews.Visitation will be held on Sunday, 03 February from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Restland in Dallas. Funeral service will be held Monday, 04 February at 3:00 PM at First United Methodist Church Richardson. Donations may be made to ARK House (https://arkhousedallas.org/) or the Spring Creek Volunteers In Patrol (https://www.springcreekdfw.com/) in lieu of flowers.
