Dr. Burton Harbin Williams' Obituary
Dr. Burton “Burt” Williams, Jr. was born on August 1, 1924 in Sikes Louisiana, and moved to Winnfield Louisiana at age 4. He attended Winnfield High School where he graduated at age 15. He started college at Southwestern Louisiana Institute in 1940, where he studied pre-med for 3 years, and was elected senior class president at age 18. In 1943 he volunteered for the US Army Corps (Now known as the Air Force) where he learned to fly B-29 bombers. That same year he also married his first wife, Beverly Young, who would become the mother of his two children, Dr. Robert G. Williams, DDS, and Linda Wichman. He was honorably discharged from the service in 1946, and was accepted to Baylor College of Dentistry.In 1947 he moved with his family to Texas, and began studying at Baylor Dental College, where he was asked to join Omicron Kappa Upsilon, the National Dental Honor Fraternity. He graduated in 1950 with highest honors, and upon graduation was immediately asked to join the faculty and began teaching. In 1952 he also opened his private practice, where he practiced dentistry for 43 years until his retirement in 1993. His Son, Dr. Robert G. Williams proudly took over his practice, and continued to treat up to four generations of patients until his retirement.In 1971 He married Cleo Pappas, who precedes him in death.Dr. Williams was the quintessential Renaissance man, who achieved excellence in any endeavor he chose to pursue. He was an avid watercolor artist, and served as president of the Southwestern Watercolor Society. He was an avid hunter, State Champion Skeet Shooter, and a member of the Dallas gun club and the Mason Hunting club for over 40 years. He also enjoyed reading, and working the New York Times Crossword puzzle Daily. He very much loved his family and his two dogs.He was very involved with his Sunday school class at Park Cities Baptist Church, where many of his beautiful watercolor paintings are now displayed.He is survived by his Wife, Mary Lou Williams, his two children, Linda Wichman and Dr. Robert G. Williams, DDS, his 5 grandchildren, Lindsay Harrison, Esq, Robert Austin Williams, Faith Ann Peralta, Seth Peralta, And Joy Bally, and his 3 great-grandchildren, Fynnlea Peralta, Isaac Bally, and Mitchell Bally.A Memorial service will be held at 10:00am, February 9, 2018 at Park Cities Baptist Church, in the Ellis Chapel. In lieu of flowers, Donations can be made in honor of Dr. Burton H. Williams Jr., DDS, to the Baylor Oral Health Foundation (Pediatric Dentistry Support Fund) which can be found online at http://www.bohf.org/.
