Mr. Byron Jerome Clayton's Obituary
Byron Jerome Clayton, 75, of Dallas, Texas, passed away on December 23, 2023.
He was born on December 29, 1947, in Sulphur Springs, Texas, to Elbie Jerome
Clayton and Curtis Mae Mangrum-Clayton.
After graduating from Bishop Dunne Catholic School, Byron attended El Centro College for two years, where he received his associate degree in philosophy/ Sociology. He continued his education at ETSU- East Texas State University (Currently Known as Texas A & M University- Commerce.)
Byron Jerome Clayton graduated from East Texas State University in 1969. He went on to work in the Security Forces. He was known for his charitable contributions such as back-to-school fundraisers and community awareness.
In his free time, Byron enjoyed spending time with his Hopkins County, Texas Family and educating the younger generation on the richness and heritage of their forefathers. As a child along with his family, he attended St. James Catholic Church located at 1002 E. Saner Avenue; Dallas, TX. 75216. After his graduation, He became a faithful member of Holy Cross Catholic Church and remained active.
until health concerns caused him to retire at certain events.
Byron never showed discouragement, even when his sight began to fade. It was then that he became active at the Lighthouse for the Blind, working part-time and attending classes. He was also a volunteer with the Salvation Army.
He will be remembered for his laughter, love for family, work ethic, and most of all his faith in God.
Byron Jerome Clayton is survived by his sister, Vernedia Ann Clayton-Bynum,
nieces, Marilyn Bynum-Wilson (c. T’asia V. Wilson, Terrance B. Wilson, II); Chelsea
Bynum-McKellum (h. Prince L. McKellum; c. Wardell W. Page II, Prince L.
McKellum, II, Stacia M. McKellum, Staten M. McKellum); nephew, Rev. Mercury V.
Bynum (w. Tamara L. Bynum, d. Kayla K. Bynum, s. Matthew Bynum); one great great niece, Nova L. Bynum, and many other family members and friends.
Funeral services will be held on December 29, 2023, at 11:00 am, at Holy Cross
Catholic Church, 5004 Bonnie View Rd, Dallas, Texas 75216. Donations can be made to the Lighthouse for the Blind and the Salvation Army Angel Tree in place of flowers.
