Byron Jones' Obituary
Byron Dean “BJ” “Big Daddy” Jones, age 58, of Royse City Texas, passed away Thursday, May 21, 2015 at Medical City after a courageous battle with cancer. Byron was born on May 17, 1957 in Colorado Springs, Colorado to Bill and Jean Jones. BJ was the oldest of 3 children, with two sisters following soon behind. His family moved to Texas where he attended Mesquite High School and met the love of his life, Vicki, in math class. While dating Vicki, he was known to call and serenade her with his famous three chords to “Smoke on the Water”. They married on August 16, 1975 and shortly after had two children, Holli Jean and Brent Randall. Holli could do no wrong in her Daddy’s eyes and Brent was his “Pop’s” best friend. BJ always had a love and special niche for classic cars and racing of all kinds. In 1990, he opened American Power Brake and Clutch with Rickey Cross. BJ was an avid supporter of the Royse City Bulldogs and began working the press box in 1995. While Brent was in high school, BJ built the Bulldog Express, the bus that never missed a football game. He met his friends for breakfast every morning at the Waffle House before work. He loved to mow in the evenings. He was crazy about his grandchildren, “Big Daddy” they called him. “Hard Work, Clean Living” was one of his many memorable quotes. BJ and Vicki attended Lake Pointe Church in Rockwall, Texas. One thing is for sure, he loved his family and friends from every walk of life and will be missed by many. He is survived by his wife, of 39 years, Vicki Jones; daughter Holli Torres and husband Paul of Royse City; son Brent Jones and wife Lauren of Royse City; grandchildren Jaemesha (JaeJae); Jaxon (Doodlebug); Beckham (Butterbean); and Braxton (Fire Ant #3); parents Bill and Jean Jones of Royse City; sister Kathy Fowler and husband Mike of Royse City; sister Lori Cook of Royse City; and a multitude of family and friends. Family will receive friends on Friday May 22, 2015 from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Restland Funeral Home. Service will be held on Saturday May 23, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Terrell First Assembly in Terrell, Texas. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to St. Jude or American Cancer Society.
