C. J "Jim" Minnerly Jr.'s Obituary
Claude Jay (Jim) Minnerly, Jr. age 94 passed away peacefully after a brief illness. Jim was born July 17, 1922, in Denton, Texas the son of Claude Jay, Sr. and Tessie Marie Minnerly. Jim attended Denton High School where he met the love of his life, Rosalys (Rose) Ligon. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, went to boot camp in San Diego and was assigned to the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Saratoga where he saw seven major battles after Pearl Harbor was attacked. The Saratoga has also survived two torpedo attacks. He was proud to be an American and he loved this country. Jim and Rose were married on June 28, 1944, and were married for almost 72 wonderful years. After the service, Jim worked at Ford Motor Co. in Arlington, TX and later worked at Texstars Plastics until he retired in 1985. Jim became an avid golfer after retirement and continued to hit golf balls until 2016. Jim is survived by a daughter, Martha Mitchell and her husband, Steve of Greenville, son Steve Minnerly and his wife, Sonya of Frisco, sister, Ruth Robbins of Virginia along with 4 grandchildren; Matthew, Dara Jayne, Samuel and Jonathan and 11 great grandchildren. Jim was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 15, 2017, at 12:30 PM at the Wildwood Chapel located at Restated Funeral Home.
