Cal Ray Crawford's Obituary
85, Went Home to be with the LORD on May 28, 2010, after a brief battle with cancer. A memorial service will be held on Saturday June 5, at 3:30pm at Restland Memorial Chapel in Dallas, with Tom Boone officiating. The family will recieve visitors from 6 to 8 pm Friday, June 4, also at Restland. Ray was born on October 21, 1924, in the community of Westover, TN, which is near Jackson. Upon graduating from high school in 1942, Ray enlisted in the US Navy and served for 3 1/2 years and then entered the US Naval Reserve, retiring as a captain in 1984. Ray graduated from the University of Texas with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and moved to Dallas to work for Dallas Power and Light. He continued to work for DP&L and later Texas Utilities Fuel CO. until his retirement in 1986. He served asa deacon at First Baptist Church of Dallas for many years. Ray married Frankie Newsom on May 2, 1953. She preceded him in death after 46 years of marriage. A daughter, Donna Crawford, also preceded him in death. Ray is survived by two daughters, Carol Rawls of Dallas and Gail Donaghey and husband Calvin of Abilene, and one son, Bruce Crawford of Mesquite. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Clarice Taylor, Laura Allison, Patrick Crawford, Cathryn Donaghey, Stacie McConnell, Ricky Rawls and Kim Crawford, and five great-grandchildren with two more on the way. He is also survived by brother, Gene Crawford, and a special friend, Ida May Cox. Ray was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and fellow bridge players. Memorials may be sent to First Baptist Church of Dallas Building Fund, 1707 San Jacinto, Dallas, 75201.
