Camellia Genevieve Pero's Obituary
Camellia Genevieve Shirley-Pero age 74 was born to Roderick Gerald Shirley and Helen Hayden-Shirley, January 31st, 1948. Both her parents and her uncle Marc Shirley preceded her in death. Camellia was the primary caregiver for both her mother and father until their death. Her brother Roderick Shirley is alive and well in the Great State of California. Camellia was reared in South Dallas Proper, attended Charles Rice, John Henry Brown, El Centro College, and graduated from Dallas Lincoln High School.
Camellia was employed in the electronics sector by Texas Instruments and Raytheon until her retirement in 2015, after 44 years. She accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of the Kirkwood C.M.E Church. Later, Camellia followed her husband, Lawrence Pero, to join the North Dallas Community Bible Fellowship in Plano, Texas. As a faithful member, she joined the Welcome Committee followed by her daughter Sonja and close friend Ida, who also joined the ministry as members of the Church. Camellia faithfully attended church and served her ministry until covid 19 curtailed church attendance for two years.
Camellia enjoyed watching QVC, HSN, Home Improvement shows, but never missed a televised church service. During this time, she liked to acquire culinary utensils to enhance her cooking skills. She loved to travel, attend social gathering with friends, family and her social group which took them all over the Metroplex to taste different cuisines and take group photos.
Camellia was the pivotal glue that bonded her blended family for three decades. She also assisted three college graduates and two great grandchildren to attend Southern University in Baton Rouge Louisiana and Texas Women University Nursing School in Denton Texas. On Saturday September 24th, 2022, Camellia transitioned from this life to her eternal home.
Camellia was known for her quick-witted humor, fierce determination, and generous spirit. Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her children. She is survived by her husband Lawrence Pero, daughters Sonja and Ambree, her brother Roderick Shirley, and his wife, prayoon Shirley, as well as her grandchildren Jerrod, Justion, Jillion, Aubree, Ashlen, great-grandchildren Jaila, Marcela, Roman and Abraham. Camellia is also cherished by her blended family, daughter Equasta, son Corey, Jerranie, grandchildren Daniel, London, Christian, Jada, Zion, Dora, Logan and Corey Jr.
