Campbell Alexander McRae's Obituary
Mac McRae was born on February 7, 1918 in Jonquiere, Quebec, Canada, to Gordon and Mary Reid McRae. He passed away in Dallas, Texas on December 7, 2014, at the age of 96. He lived a long, fabulous life. Mac grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and after graduating from Langley High School in 1936, he went to work for U.S. Steel. He was drafted in April 1941 at the age of 23, and did his basic training at Ft. Mead, Maryland. He was in North Carolina when Pearl Harbor was attacked on December 7, 1941. Mac was stationed in Europe as a forward observer for an Army artillery battalion. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He was wounded twice, and was awarded the Purple Heart and Cluster and the Bronze Star. He was honorably discharged as a Second Lieutenant in December 1945. Mac married Joann Gibbon on April 8, 1945 in Dallas, Texas. He graduated from SMU with an accounting degree in 1953, and worked for Employers Casualty Company as a systems analyst until his retirement in 1978. Mac was very active at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, serving as an Elder, Treasurer, and Chairman of Meals on Wheels. He was an active member of the Downtown Dallas Exchange Club for over 30 years. Mac was preceded in death by his wife, Joann, who passed away in 1995. Mac is survived by his daughters, Malinda Roberts (Doug) of Ft. Myers, Florida and Patti Steinke (Ted) of Dallas, and by his sons, John McRae and Mike McRae (Cherie) of Dallas, and Dwaine Murphy (Ramona) of Lake Tawakoni, Texas. He is also survived by grandchildren, Paige Roberts Midness (Haakon), Blake Roberts, Megan McRae Haislip (Ross), Reid McRae, and Meredith McRae, and four great-grandchildren. A memorial service for Mac will be held at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 3204 Skillman in Dallas on Friday, December 12, 2014, at 2:00 PM. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, at Restland Road, Dallas, TX 75243. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to St. Andrews Presbyterian Church
