Captain Samuel Bertram King's Obituary
KING, CAPTAIN SAMUEL BERTRAM of Dallas has taken that final flight. Born 6/25/13 in Houston-but moved and grew up in Dallas. Sam was the son of Walter King and Lillian Ellis. Sam graduated Highland Park High School and attended SMU where he was the Student Football Manager of the 1936 SMU Rose Bowl Team. Prior to WWII, he became a pilot and went to work for Pan American Airways and later to American Overseas Airlines. Once the war broke out, he was assigned to Air Transport Command for the duration of the war duration. Sam flew all over the world in airliners and flying boats. He also flew in the Berlin Airlift. After the war, Sam Flew for American, until 1951 when decided to enter the Oil and Gas business in Dallas. Sam enjoyed a 40 year career in the oil industry as an Independent operator, land man and company land man for several Dallas exploration companies. Sam was married to his one and only Marjorie King who preceded him in death in 2004. Sam is survived by his three sons: Stephen King and wife Stephanie King and their son, James King, Jr., all of Dallas; Randy King, of Palestine ,Texas, and Michael King, of Denton, Texas. Sam made it to 100 years old and we are grateful for his years with us and comforted that he lived a long exciting life and is now in a better place. He also played great Tennis and was one heck of a Dancer! Service will be held Thursday, August 15, 2013 at 12:00 PM at Restland Abbey Chapel with visitation one hour prior.
