Carlene Gant Mallett's Obituary
Carlene Gant Mallett was born on 04/13/27 in Nashville, Tennessee and passed away on 01/25/21 in Austin, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband, C.B. Mallett, Jr., parents, James Carl Gant and Ethel Morse Gant; her brother, Jim Gant; her beloved sister, Dolores Gant Salcher; and her daughter-in-law, Cathey Mallett.
She is survived by daughter Barb Holtzclaw (Gary), and sons Chuck (Kathy), Roger (Jan), and Carl (Pat). She was Mawmaw to Brian, Bonnie, John, Becca, Alana, Caleb, Eli, Travis, Zane, Amoriss, Luke, Elijah, and Amos. She is also survived by four great-grandchildren: Khloe, Dalton, Daley, and Cooper, her precious sister-in-law, Fran Gant, and many nieces and nephews.
Carlene Gant married C.B. Mallett in 1945. They raised their family in east Dallas where C.B. was employed by Dallas Power and Light. Carlene worked for a number of years as a dietician’s assistant at Gaston Hospital. Over the years, C.B. and Carlene worshipped first at Casa Linda Presbyterian Church and later at Reinhardt Bible Church.
When C.B. retired from DP&L in 1986, Carlene persuaded him to travel. They visited England and Israel as well as many states including Colorado and Hawaii.
Carlene was a wonderful cook, and her elegant table settings were showstoppers. Her grandkids looked forward to their birthday cakes each year. She loved to garden and to birdwatch. Carlene’s gentle smile and twinkling eyes revealed her kind heart. Truly, memories of our sweet Mawmaw will bless us in the years to come.
A memorial service for Carlene will be on Saturday, February 13, 2021 at 2 p.m. in The Abbey Chapel at Restland Memorial Park Cemetery in Dallas, and Entombment will follow.
