Carlton Henry Long Jr.'s Obituary
Long, Jr., Lt. Col. Carlton H. Ret. USAF 9/15/1920 – 8/28/2014 He spent his life serving God and country. Reared in Dallas, attended Crozier Tech and SMU. WWII combat pilot, 8th Army Air Force 534 Bomb Squadron. POW in Stalag Luft 3, 1943-1945 and Purple Heart. Served from 1946-1963 in Strategic Air Command as Aircraft Commander and Deputy Operations Commander, piloting B-52 nuclear ballistic missile planes and B-47s. Highly decorated veteran including 4 oak leaf clusters. He returned to Dallas with a career in commercial real estate with Blue Cross and Firestone, retiring to Tyler, TX where he was a deacon at Colonial Hills Baptist Church. Predeceased by his parents Salome Gay and Carlton H Long and loving wife Dorothy and daughter Megan. Survived by his loving wife Elsie, daughter Susan Mills, grandchildren Anya Councilman, Max Stein, Michael Landis, Kelly Seevers, Tracy Mueller, Stacy Mueller, Great Granddaughter Naomi, Nieces Pam & Dr Eugene DeLisa and Becky and Brad Todd. Visitation Sunday, Aug. 31, Restland 12PM-2PM. Military funeral Tuesday, Sept. 2, Restland 12:30PM. Memorials to the HAMM Museum, Tyler, TX. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75238.
