Carol Sue Durham's Obituary
Carol Sue Scott Durham passed away peacefully on January 27, 2016. She was born September 5th, 1945 – taken too early, she was just 70 years old. Carol is preceded in death by her mother, Pauline Sorrows Scott, her father, Melvin Sidney Scott, her sister Billy Joe Scott, and her brother, Robert Scott. She is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Tommy Morris Durham and her two daughters, Kelley Durham Johnson of Dallas, her husband Eric Johnson and Kimberly Durham Raymond of Plano and her husband Martin Raymond. She had six beautiful grandchildren who absolutely adored her: Margo, Sydney and Blair Johnson and Megan, Grant and Ford Raymond. Close family also includes Carol’s sister-in-law Lynn Scott, Carol’s nephews Kirk Scott and his wife Heather and Brent Scott, his wife Kelly and their two sons Quintin and Campbell. Carol lived a full and happy life residing in Dallas after her graduation from Samuel High School in 1964. She married Tommy shortly after graduation and worked for Chase Bank for over 30 years. Her love for others was apparent in all she did, the most selfless person we knew. Her faith in the Lord and love for her husband, children, grandchildren, friends and animals was what gave her the will to carry on over all these years of bad health. That strength is the core of who she was and what allowed her to overcome obstacles and adversity. We called her our “Energizer Bunny” – she took a licken and kept on ticken! Even though she was often in the hospital, sick, not feeling good or just uncomfortable you would never know it – she would have a BIG Smile on her face and saying to us, “I am just fine” so we would not worry – she was completely selfless. Her love for dancing at her favorite restaurant on “Elvis night”, hanging out with her kitty watching the “Wendy Show”, playing bunko with her church friends, going on little get-aways or shopping at Stein Mart and Marshalls with her besties from High School, gardening and picking weeds in her yard, spending time with her grandchildren cooking and playing games, and going to dinner and a movie with her beloved husband was what she loved to do and really all she needed in life. She was easily pleased and it took so very little to make her happy. She was a light in this world that brought so much joy, love and happiness to all with her twinkling, electric blue eyes and infectious, beautiful smile, she would light up a whole room when she walked in. We are so deeply sad for our loss and she will be missed more than words can even express but our comfort comes in knowing that she is not in pain anymore and is at peace today in heaven with our precious Lord and Savior. A celebration of Carol’s life will be held on Monday, February 1st 11:00 am at Lake Highlands Baptist Church, 642 Brookhurst, Dallas, Texas 75218. In honor of Carol’s memory a donation can be made in lieu of flowers to the SPCA of Texas to support her love of animals. www.spca.org/inhonor Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243.
