Carol Joyce McCoy's Obituary
Carol Joyce McCoy passed away peacefully surrounded by her son, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter on Wednesday, January 22, 2020.
Carol was born on March 1, 1941 to Walter and Lois Harrison in Childress, Texas. She later grew up in the Lake Highlands area of Dallas, Texas and attended Bryan Adams High School and North Texas State University. Following her career as an Executive Secretary at the Southland Corporation, Carol retired and pursued her writing passion. Carol was a member of a local writers/authors group, Pentad, and a national group, the Teabuds, both of whom offered her joy and life long, cherished friendships. She particularly enjoyed Native American culture and authored two books based in the Southwest.
In recent months, Carol moved from her home in Frisco Lakes to Highland Village to be closer to her family. Although that time was short lived, she enjoyed the friends she made following her move and the extra time with her son and his family. Carol is preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Lois Harrison; her husband, Dennis McCoy; and her beloved Norfolk Terrier, Biz. She is survived by her son, Glenn Harrison Gunnoe; daughter in law, Christina (Stark); granddaughter, Rosalie; her dearest friend, Helen Holmes; and all of the friends she spoke fondly of from the Pentad and Teabuds writers’ groups; the Frisco Lakes community; and the childhood friendships she maintained many years later. In lieu of flowers, donations in her honor may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
