Carol and Ray lived in many cities around the United States, including Houston, TX, Denver, CO, and Shreveport, LA, before settling in Dallas in the late 1970’s. Before having children, Carol worked as a school teacher, and throughout her life, she was a dedicated home-maker and active participant in fellowship activities, including the Dallas Geological Wives Society and PEO Chapter DX. She was also an active member of the Highland Park United Methodist church for many years.Carol is survived by her brother, Thomas E. Calder and his wife, Maureen Calder, of Sedalia, MO; sister-in-law Marge Calder of Omaha, NE; her three children, Mark C. Miller and his wife, Kelly Miller, of McKinney, TX, Julie Munson, and her husband, David Munson, of Allen, TX, and Gene Miller and his wife, Betsy Miller, of Shreveport, LA; her grandchildren, Robin Brant and her husband, Michael Brant, of Dallas, TX; Jana Miller of Dallas, TX; Calder Miller of Houston, TX; Lauren Munson of Dallas, TX; Jordan Miller of Shreveport, LA; Michael Munson of Allen, TX; and John Brand of McKinney, Texas; and her great-grandchildren, Miller and Fletcher Brant of Dallas, TX. Carol is preceded in death by her husband, L. Ray Miller, and brother, Michael Calder.Carol, or Manny, as she was known by her family and their circle of friends, will be remembered for her bright smile and warmth, her sharp sense of humor, her delectable molasses cookies, and most importantly, her ability to love unconditionally. A natural hostess, she always welcomed “strays” into her home with open arms and full plates, taking great care to make her guests feel welcome and special. A seat next to Manny at a gathering was a prime real estate because you’d be guaranteed a laugh. She loved her family first and foremost and a good romance novel with a tall whiskey and water second. She was a master of cards, crossword puzzles, and board games, and never let her grandchildren win at Boggle. She will be missed terribly by a large circle of family and friends who are all grateful for the opportunity to have known her. If desired, in lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the American Cancer Society in her memory.A memorial service for Carol Jean Miller will be held on Sunday, May 20, 2018, at 3:00 PM in The Abbey Chapel at Restland Funeral Home.Funeral arrangements for Carol Jean Miller have been faithfully entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Cemetery, which is located at 13005 Greenville Ave., at the intersection of Restland Road, Dallas, Texas 75243, and can be reached at (972) 238-7111.
