Carol Vystrcil Scott's Obituary
Carol Vystrcil Scott, a distinguished watercolor artist and devoted educator, passed away peacefully in Sugar Land, Texas, on February 2, 2026. She was 89 years old.
A Life Defined by Art
Born on November 10, 1936, in Ohio, Carol’s lifelong pursuit of art began in her youth. After moving to Texas in the 1950s, she dedicated herself to a rigorous academic and professional path in the fine arts. She began her studies at the Cleveland Institute of Art and went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Sculpture from Texas Woman’s University, followed by a Master of Fine Arts in Painting from the University of North Texas.
Carol was an exceptionally accomplished watercolor artist. Throughout her career, she received numerous awards and held many exhibitions, leaving behind a vibrant portfolio that captured her unique perspective and technical mastery.
An Inspiring Educator
Carol’s passion for art was matched only by her commitment to teaching. She shared her deep knowledge of painting and art history at several prestigious institutions, including Southern Methodist University (SMU), Dallas County Community College, and Collin County Community College. Her influence was also felt within the community through her work with the Dallas Museum of Art and the Dallas Visual Art Center, where she helped foster a love for creativity in countless students.
Family and Legacy
Carol was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Donald Roger Scott.
She is survived by her son, Daryl Raymond Scott, and her daughter, Kimberly Joy Tutt. She also leaves behind three granddaughters who brought her great pride: Sarah Marie Mullins and Allison Elizabeth Burkett, daughters of Daryl; and Abigail Tutt, daughter of Kimberly.
Carol will be remembered by her family, peers, and former students as a woman of immense talent and intellectual curiosity. Her legacy lives on through the art she created and the many lives she touched in the classroom.
Celebration of Life
A brief celebration of life will be held from 2:00 to 3:00 PM on February 18, 2026, at Wildwood Chapel within Restland Funeral Home, located at 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243.
Memorial Contributions
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association in memory of Carol.
