Carol Ann Sims' Obituary
Carol Ann (Williamson) Sims of Plano, Texas passed away on November 10th after a ten-year battle with Alzheimer’s. Carol was born January 20, 1938, in Dallas to Harvey and Edith (Leatherwood) Williamson. She grew up in Lake Highlands and graduated from North Dallas High School. Carol worked as a secretary at Campbell Taggart and later at Texas Instruments. After being an amazing stay at home mom for many years, Carol launched Just Ducky, selling her hand-painted ceramics at craft shows and at Dallas Market to shops all over the U.S. Her entrepreneurial spirit continued to shine when Lone Star Fudge & Gift Emporium opened: the Texas general store she ran with her sisters Betty and Linda and her nephew and niece Jeff and Becky. Mom loved lipstick, Diet Dr Pepper, reading, jewelry, shopping, decorating and redecorating, birding, eclectic gardening, and John Wayne (the westerns). But most of all, she lived to spend time laughing and loving her family. It didn’t matter what was on the agenda: she was up for it. Stuffing all the kids in her Bug for a trip to Turner Falls with her sisters, cheating at cards, traveling, recounting encounters with aliens, playing games – you always wanted her on your team for Trivial Pursuit, and just being Mimi to her grandkids. Mom was intelligent, fun-loving, unconventional, and beautiful. She was the strongest person we have ever known. Carol was preceded in death by her daughter Leslie Heggie, her grandson Justin Hooper, and her husband Richard. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Nick and Helen Santangelo of Pflugerville; her daughter and son-in-law Lisa and Mark Hooper of Allen; her daughter and son-in-law Cecily and David Chetlin of Frisco; grandchildren Cami Hancock, Nicholas Santangelo, Hunter Hooper, Ashley Hooper, Ryan Chetlin, Jack Chetlin; great-grandson Aden Hancock; her sisters Betty Hooper and Linda Fox; and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 15th from 6 – 8 pm at Restland Funeral Home in Dallas. Service will be held on Wednesday, November 16th at 2:30 pm at Memorial Chapel at Restland. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243.
