Carol and I have been friends since 1963. I met her best girlfriend from high school, Daphne Yeary, at Camp Gilmont, the Presbyterian church camp we went to. She was from Tyler. I was from Kilgore. After camp, Daphne and I continued dating into the summer and throughout my senior year of 1963-64. My best friend from KHS, Joe O'Hagan started dating Carol for a while in the fall of 1963. Joe and Carol would doubledate with Daphne and me. At that time, I met Carol's parents. What wonderful people! Just lovely! I recall that her father was an Aggie. He gave me grief because I was looking at attending the University of Texas. Fast Forward to adulthood. I became a Presbyterian minister and psychologist. In 1985, Jerry Shetler, Senior Pastor at Preston Hollow Presbyterian in Dallas asked me to become a Parish Associate at Preston Hollow Pres. That's where Carol and I once again ran into each other, just after she was recently widowed. My youngest son Greg was in Youth Group with both of her sons. They became good friends. They loved being in several terrific Preston Hollow Pres youth musicals together. They went to MoRanch and Montreat together. Carol and I again loved being friend again. I absolutely loved and cherished Carol. She was one of the most genuinely caring and joyful people I have ever known. She was completely commited to her God, her church and her faith, even in the midst of, and after losin her husband so young and being forced into single parenthood. She served Preston Hollow Pres in every way imaginable. Even after I moved to Ft. Collins, CO in 2005, we kept in touch by text.
