Carolea Morris Stone's Obituary
Carolea Morris Stone, 87, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2025, surrounded by loved ones and listening to her favorite record, which featured her singing group The Vocalettes, in her home in Mckinney, Texas. She joined her husband, Weldon Stone, who passed away on October 24, 2015, in their eternal home the day before what would have been their 68th wedding anniversary.
Carol, as she was known by friends, was born on February 7, 1938, to Gaston and Jennie Morris in Chillicothe, Texas and soon thereafter moved to Van, Texas, where she spent her childhood. Upon graduating from Van High School, Carol moved to Belton, Texas, to attend Mary Hardin Baylor in 1956.
Carol was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Richardson from 1960 to 1998 and again beginning in 2012 after returning from Athens, Texas where she was a member of First Baptist Athens in addition to being the executive assistant to the Pastor. Carol was the second female deacon ordained at FBC Richardson.
Anyone who was lucky enough to know Carol undoubtedly felt the light of God’s love that she imparted on the world. She loved music, and she shared her faith through that love, singing beautifully in the choir at every church where she was a member. Some of her favorite hymns included Psalm 91 (“He That Dwelleth in the Secret Place of the Most High”), The Lord’s Prayer, “My Lord is Near Me All the Time,” and “It is Well With my Soul.”
Throughout her life she worked in various jobs, including as an assistant at the Southwestern Bell offices, assistant at Prairie Creek Elementary School, assistant at Richland College, and legal assistant at the Baptist Foundation of Texas, legal assistant at Thompson and Knight, where she also wrote a philanthropy newsletter. After retiring she spent her time volunteering in numerous capacities including at Medical City McKinney, where she was a comforting and uplifting presence for many. In 2020, Carol was awarded the HCA Healthcare’s Frist Humanitarian Award, which recognizes three volunteers, out of 316,000, nationwide each year for the highest achievements in serving others, acknowledging the generosity and selflessness her family and friends loved her so much for.
Affectionately called ‘Gran’ by her grandchildren, her memory lives on with her three sisters Gayle Hunt, Elizabeth Jane Halquist, and Bobbye Rucker; her three children Cindy (Julie), Gaston ‘Kyle’ (Beth) and Joe (Tara) Stone; her thirteen grandchildren Jordan (Haley) Stone, Emily (Cody) Smith, Tanner Stone, Merritt (Lauren) Ford, Savannah (Harrison) Woods, Hanah Stone, Luke Ford, Lauren Stone, Rachel Boudreaux, Alex (Kristina) Boudreaux, Shea Strifler, Sydney (Garrett) Pruett, and Seth (Paola) Strifler; and her seven great grandchildren Brooks Smith, Beau Smith, Ryan Stone, Warren Pruett, Shiloh Strifler, Aiden Strifler, and Elias Strifler.
Funeral service will be held at Restland Funeral Home in the Memorial Chapel on Friday June 27, 2025, at 2pm with a visitation starting at 1pm.
Per her wishes, Carol's grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
