Carolyn Jane Ballew's Obituary
Carolyn Hooker Ballew, 84, went to be with God and her loved ones, April 30, 2013 in the comfort of her own home. Our mother was born in Dallas, TX on December 14, 1928. She and her younger brother, Don Hooker, grew up in Dallas and graduated from Vickery Hillcrest High School. She enjoyed horses and her many friends. Mom attended Texas Tech University, majoring in Home Economics, learning skills that prepared her for her future. She married Jack H. Ballew in Dallas, TX on August 6, 1950 in University Park Methodist Church. They had four children, Mike, Mark, Peggy and Sandra. Their lifelong relationship with the church and their Sunday school classes, demonstrated love for God and a life that was led with strong Christian values. We share memories of our mom teaching Vacation Bible School and crafts, taking her children to dance, Boy Scouts, Camp Fire Girls, swimming, meetings, picnics, and many family outings. Mom loved children, flowers, nature and the family cabin in the Colorado mountains. She stayed connected to her many social clubs and friends from Caprice, Northway Review and Mes Amies clubs. She had lifelong friendships with her “Pink Toe Club” girls that have been together since childhood and still meet every December. Thank you to her loyal and precious friends that helped make her life full. We want to sincerely thank the caring staff of Home Instead and also the very gentle love and care from VNA Private Care and Hospice. You were a final gift. Carolyn was preceded in death by her father and mother J. Walter and Lola Hooker of Dallas, husband Jack H. Ballew, son Mark Ballew and grandson Travis Ballew. She is survived by her children Mike Ballew and wife Margo, daughter-in-law Debra Ballew, Peggy Ballew Moore and husband Joe, Sandra Ballew Werthmann and husband Joe, grandchildren Chad Ballew and wife Jenny, Tracy Ballew Tobin and husband Matt, Jack Moore, Raymi Moore, Cole Werthmann and great grandchildren Jude and Talula Tobin.
