Carolyn Ann Jones' Obituary
Ms. Carolyn Ann (Patterson) Jones passed away peacefully at her home in Richardson, Texas, on July 8, 2025, at the age of 89. Born on December 28, 1935, in Pecos, Texas, to Nathaniel Smith (NS) Patterson and Velma Howard Patterson.
Carolyn, Loving daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, grew up in Houston, Texas and graduated from San Jacinto High School. She married Charles Wetzel and the young couple relocated to Dallas where they parented 4 children. In 1959, the couple bought their first house in West Richardson - a city that would become her lifelong home.
Carolyn began college as a young woman but chose to pause her education to dedicate herself to raising her children. Later in life, driven by a strong belief in the value of learning, she returned to school and proudly finished her degree. She obtained her Bachelor's degree in education from Amberton College. Her commitment to education was a testament to her perseverance and intellectual curiosity.
Throughout her life, Carolyn pursued a variety of professional paths with grace and determination. She worked as a teacher, paralegal, real estate agent, and in women’s retail—each role reflecting different facets of her versatile talents and interests. However, it was in the liberal arts that Carolyn truly found joy and expression. A gifted artist and writer, she filled her home with original artwork and poetry that captured both beauty and emotion. Her love for music was ever-present; the sound of piano melodies often echoed through her home as she played with passion throughout the years. At the end of her career, Carolyn retired from Blue Cross Blue Shield where she worked for over 10 years.
Later in life, Carolyn professed her faith in Christ. She frequently shared thoughtful conversations about scripture and her spiritual journey, often recalling verses she had memorized to offer comfort and encouragement. She was a devoted member of Arapaho United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir and served in various roles, forming lasting friendships within the congregation.
Carolyn's warmth extended far beyond her creative pursuits. Known for her kind heart and compassionate spirit, she was always among the first to offer help when someone was in need. Friends and acquaintances alike remember her friendly smile and gentle demeanor. She had an unwavering ability to see the good in others—a quality that endeared her to many.
Above all else, Carolyn cherished time spent with family. She found immense joy in family gatherings and treasured every moment shared with loved ones across generations. Her legacy lives on through her four children: Charlie Wetzel (Kelly), Carolyn Fernandez (Patrick), Julia Sandoz (David), and Karen Allen (Terry). She is also survived by her grandchildren: Lani (Ivo), Julia (Pascal), Clinton (Holly), Jacob (Christi), Nick, Hailey (Micah), Everett, Garrett, Deena (Sid), and Taylor. Her great‑grandchildren include Jeremiah (Jenny), Aidan, Dylan, Tyler, Rowan, Logan, Lilly, Olivia, Amelie, Everleigh, Connor, Maya, and Everett. Her great‑great‑grandchildren include Trinity, Alex, and William. She is also survived by her brother, Donnie Patterson (Tracy), nephew, Nate, and niece, Jessica.
Carolyn Ann Jones lived a life marked by resilience, creativity, and deep devotion to her family. She leaves behind a legacy of love, creativity, and compassion. May her memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Services and burial will be held at Restland Funeral Home, Wildwood Chapel, in Dallas, Texas. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 10:30 a.m., and a graveside service at 11:30 a.m.
