Carolyn Barbara Shankle's Obituary
Carolyn Barbara Shankle of Garland, Texas passed away on March 3, 2024 at the age of 81 surrounded by her family.
She was born May 26, 1942 in Denison, Texas to Cletus Hoedebeck and Mildred Krebs Hoedebeck. She graduated from Ursuline Academy of Dallas and later made a career at Texas Instruments for 25 years.
In 1960 Carolyn married Nick Giardina and they went on to have 4 children. After raising her four children, Carolyn then married the love of her life, Pete Shankle on June 27, 1987 and gained 6 stepsons. Carolyn and Pete were the proud owners of the 777 club in Richardson, Texas for 9 years where she gained countless friends that became like family. One of Carolyn’s most loved hobbies that she discovered while owning the 777, was shuffleboard. She competed in the shuffleboard league held there and continued to do so years after selling the club. She remained happily married to Pete for 27 years until his passing in 2014.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, Cletus and Mildred, husband Pete, daughter Angela Giardina, brothers Jerry and Jimmy Hoedebeck, and mother-in-law Rita House. She is survived by her children, Liz Giardina, Millie Long, and Nick Giardina; daughter in law, Christi; grandchildren, Sarah, Tiffany, Bryan, Tanner, Preston, Peyton, Paxton, and Taylor; great grandchildren, Lexi, Jackson, Brycin, Baylor, Waylon, Everlee, Scarlett, Katie, Grace, and Emily; stepsons, Stan, Greg, Steve, Tom, Jimmy, and Joe Shankle; siblings, Jackie, Doug, Theresa, and Cletus; and 14 Shankle grandchildren and 12 greatgrandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am, Wednesday, March 20, 2024 at St. Jude Catholic Church, 1515 N. Greenville Ave, Allen, Texas. To send flowers, St. Jude asks that any deliveries be made only the morning of the service no earlier than 8 am. The delivery location is the large foyer (the Narthex) at the back of the church.
