Carolyn Louise Skokan's Obituary
SKOKAN, CAROLYN LOUISE,age 64, of Carrollton, TX, passed away of congestive heart failure on Saturday, June 8, 2013 at Baylor Hospital of Carrollton. She was born on September 13, 1948 in Albuquerque, NM to Wendell and Louise Cox of Clovis, NM. Carolyn was the older of 2 children. She was raised in Clovis and in Richardson, TX. She graduated from Richardson High School in 1965, married her high school sweetheart, and had 2 daughters before continuing her education. She attended Texas Women’s University and graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1980 with a Bachelor’s in Nursing. This started her in a career dedicated to helping others. Carolyn was employed as a Registered Nurse for 28 years in various hospitals and home health agencies in the Dallas area as an infusion/chemotherapy nurse and later as a wound-ostomy-continence specialist. She was a member of the Wound Ostomy Continence Nursing Society for 15 years. Health issues eventually forced her retirement in 2008. She was a current resident of Carrollton, TX for 17 years, and a former resident of Richardson, TX for over 25 years. She married Mark Skokan in Garland, TX on April 3, 1999. The couple continued to live in Carrollton until her death. She enjoyed sailing and traveling before health issues reduced her mobility. She loved pets, raising two cats for 17 and 22 years, and most recently her canine companion Sophie-who misses her mommy very much. Carolyn will be remembered by her loving husband and children; daughters, Kara Kelley Hallmark and husband John, of Leander, TX; Lea Kelley Lowrance and husband Peyton, of Austin, TX; and stepdaughter, Lauren Skokan of Dallas. She is also survived by her granddaughter, Kelley Lowrance; sister and brother-in-law, Rosemary and Larry Yowell of Plano; niece, Lauren Yowell; nephew, Ryan Yowell, his wife, Nicole; and great-nephew, Mason Yowell. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday, June 15, 2013 in Restland Abbey Chapel.
