Carolyn Welch Sorrels' Obituary
Carolyn Welch Sorrels, 86, passed away on April 8, 2026, in Dallas, Texas.
She was born on November 29, 1939, in Paris, Texas, to Jack Welch and Lucille Devlin Welch. Carolyn graduated from the University of North Texas in 1961 with a degree in education. During her time at the university, she was a proud member of the Chi Omega sorority. That same year, she married her first husband, Jimmy Serur, and together they had three daughters.
Carolyn began her career as a special education teacher, where she devoted many years to helping students with patience and compassion. Later, she worked in the corporate sector with Lomas & Nettleton Financial Corporation.
Carolyn married Charles David Sorrels on July 16, 1997. Through this marriage, she was also blessed with stepchildren, Christy Drake and Lance Sorrels and his wife, Barbara. She was a devoted mother and was especially cherished in her role as “Grammy.” Her family was the center of her life, and she took great pride in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughters, Kimberli Greer and her husband, Dr. Dale Greer, and Sharon White and her husband, Scott White; her stepchildren, Christy Drake and Lance Sorrels and his wife, Barbara; her grandchildren, Garrett Greer and his wife, Riley Greer, Dr. Preston Greer and his wife, Dr. Sydney Greer, Logan Stroud and her husband, Brandon Stroud, Hayden Greer, Jordan White, and Mason Greer and his fiancée, Savannah Pace; and her seven great-grandchildren, Reid, Rhett, and Rynne Greer; Nolan, Vance, and Maeve Greer; and Ronan Stroud. She was preceded in death by one daughter.
A joint memorial service for Carolyn and her husband, Charlie, will be held on Friday, May 15, at 10:30 a.m. at Restland Funeral Home. This will be followed by an Honors Ceremony at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery in recognition of Charlie’s military service.
Though she is gone from our sight, her love remains woven into the lives of all who knew her.
