Carryl Othneil Bethel Jr.'s Obituary
Bethel Jr., Carryl O. Beloved husband, father and grandfather. Born November 8, 1925, passed away on October 25, 2009. Memorial service will be held at 3:30pm on Wednesday, October 28 at Restland Dallas, officiated by Rev. Bill Smith. Carryl was born in Key West, Florida to Hazel and Carryl Bethel Sr.. He attended Hillcrest High School in Orlando, Florida, and graduated from Atlanta Jr College in Atlanta, Georgia. He participated in the Signal Corp at Georgia Tech and North Carolina State, and joined the Navy in 1943. Carryl graduated from the University of Texas in Austin, Texas with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electric Engineering. He worked for Sun Oil, Otis Engineering, Collins Radio, Tempco AirCraft and Rockwell International until his retirement in 1985. He married Mary Gertrude Haren, his devoted wife of 33 years in 1956. Gertrude preceded Carryl in death in 1989. Carryl sister, Deloria, died in 2002. In 1998, Carryl married Barbara Rider and they had 11 wonderful years together. Carryl is survived by daughter Cynthia Hoang, her husband Thai and their two sons, Thai Jr., and Carryl (Court), as well as many nieces and nephews. Carryl loved music and the symphony, as well as sports, especially golf and tennis. Later in life, he enjoyed taking cruises to new destinations. The family wishes to recognize the gracious care given to Carryl by the staff at the Settler’s Ridge in Celina, TX., and Heart-to-Heart Hospice. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to American Diabetic Ass’n, the American Heart Institute or Highland Park United Methodist Church.
