Casey Howard Bragg's Obituary
After a heroic eight month battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia, Casey Howard Bragg passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on April 30, 2016 in Dallas, Texas at the age of 43. Casey is survived by his adoring and loving wife, Jessica Chavez Bragg; his step-daughter Jayde Alexandra, his daughter, Jaziel Aviana; his son, Joachim Ayn; his mom, Judith V. Bragg; his dad, James E. Bragg and his step-mom, Diane M. Bragg. Casey was born on September 14, 1972 in Albany, GA, to father James E. Bragg and mother Judith V. Bragg. He was the youngest of three children. His two siblings that preceded him in death were James E. Bragg, Jr. and Cindy L. Rowles. Casey spent his childhood in Albany. He excelled in the high school marching band playing the saxophone, mastered computers, gaming and electronics, and went on to graduate from Georgia Tech University of Atlanta with a degree in Computer Science Engineering in 1995. This quickly landed him a position with Texas Instruments in Dallas and off he went to the great state of Texas. Casey met the love of his life in 2003 and married Jessica Chavez on November 9, 2009. They resided in North Dallas, raising a teen and deciding to add more to the mix with another beautiful daughter and sweet son whom he adored. Casey was a dedicated professional at AT&T with a love of anything outdoors – running, mountain biking, walking, fishing, flying kites, soccer, swimming, triathlons, cycling, hiking, kayaking, boating, water skiing, camping, gardening, sailing, outdoor yoga, chasing kids, you name it. Casey also loved all things that let his creativity flow – drawing, coloring, writing poems and letters, writing short stories and movie scripts, acting, filming, photography, and yes, even designing and sewing costumes. Casey was incredibly creative and resourceful – building dog feeders, electronic sliding doors, confetti canons, universal remote controls, and a multitude of inventions in his home. His ideas were non-stop wonders. During his tenure at AT&T, Casey developed a patent for Devices, Systems and Methods for Detecting Proximal Traffic in 2008. He also continued his studies at the University of Texas at Dallas Naveen Jindal School of Management where he completed both his MBA and MS of Information and Technology in 2014 with the honor of High Scholar Distinction. At UTD, Casey was an active officer in Toastmasters and the Dean’s Council. While in graduate school, and with a growing family, Casey still sought out the opportunities and time to be active in work, school, church and the community. He was a well-regarded and much liked member of the Knights of Columbus at All Saints Catholic Church. He squeezed in production and acting time in 2011’s Dallas 48-hour Film Project. He was always involved in volunteering with all things parenting – from endless hours at JJ Pearce High School with his step-daughter’s extra-curricular activities and quinceñera production, to many more hours at Spanish Schoolhouse for Jaziel and Joachim activities. Through AT&T, Casey spent many hours volunteering with Junior Achievement. When diagnosed with AML in August 2015, Casey had to stop working in order to relocate to M.D. Anderson Cancer Research Center in Houston, Texas to dedicate all of his strong will to battle this illness. He remained a valiant and iron-willed man, even throughout his final days. His strong and mighty fight will always remain a true testament of his enormous love for life and his family. He will be treasured as a real life superhero by his wife, children, family and friends as he did everything in his power to beat the Leukemia and help medical research along the way. Casey touched the lives of many people and maintained his trademark sense of humor all the way to the end. He will forever remain in our hearts and memory as a beautiful soul. He was an amazing father and step-dad, the most doting and loving husband, great companion in every sense, loyal friend, very honest and down to earth, sensitive, always ever thoughtful and extremely witty and funny. Casey Bragg was hands down one of the most honorable, chivalrous and remarkable men his family and friends had ever been blessed to know and love. Casey requested to be entombed in a mausoleum. He will be interred in the Chapel Garden outdoor mausoleum at Restland Dallas. A celebration of life reception at the Bragg home will follow and all are welcome. The family would especially like to thank Judy Bragg, Casey’s mom and primary caregiver in Houston, for her most loving care; the staff of M.D. Anderson Cancer Research Center and Baylor Hospital for their constant, attentive and cutting edge treatment; Fr. Alfonse Nazzaro, Fr. Paul Nguyen, all the parishioners and organizations at All Saints Catholic Church for their continued prayers and support; and, all of the Bragg’s immediate and extended family and friends for their continued prayers and support. Visitation will be from 4:00-5:00 pm on Friday, May 6, 2016 at All Saints Catholic Church, 5231 Meadowcreek Dr. in Dallas followed by a Rosary from 5:00-5:30 pm. Service will be held on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at 10 AM at The Wildwood Chapel at Restland Funeral Home. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted into Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, Texas 75243.
