Catherine Hester Borland's Obituary
Catherine Hester Borland, Cathy to her friends, passed away peacefully in Round Rock, Texas. A devoted wife and mother, Catherine’s life was a journey that took her across the globe and back to the heart of the family she loved so dearly.
Born on January 5, 1947, Catherine was the daughter of the late Ruby Winslow. At the age of three, she was welcomed into the loving home of the late Joe and Peggy Hester. As the daughter of an Army officer, Cathy’s childhood was marked by adventure; she lived in Japan at age five and spent several years in Germany as a young teenager. These early travels instilled in her a lifelong wonder for the world, which she later revisited through her passion for reading and genealogy.
Shortly after graduating high school in Richardson, Texas, Cathy’s life was forever changed by a providential exchange of letters with a young meteorologist in the United States Navy, Randy Borland. Though they had been high school friends in Alabama, a nudge from Randy’s sister, Kitty, began their correspondence. They were married in 1966 while he was on leave, beginning a devoted marriage that spanned over 55 years. Cathy was preceded in death by her beloved Randy four years ago.
In a testament to the power of connection, Cathy reunited with her birth mother, Ruby, after 60 years apart. They developed a profound bond, and Catherine cherished the time they spent together before Ruby’s passing.
All Catherine ever truly desired was to be a wife and mother, a role she fulfilled with tireless devotion. She is survived by her loving children: her son, Robert, and his wife, Diane; and her daughter, Jen, and her partner, Matt. She is also survived by a community of friends who will miss her fiery spirit.
The visitation will be held at Restland Funeral Home on Friday, April 3, 2026 from 6:00 to 8:00pm, with the Funeral Service at Restland Funeral Home - Wildwood Chapel on Saturday, April 4, 2026 at 10:30am followed by interment in Restland Cemetery.
