Catherine Ann Grimley's Obituary
Catherine Ann McGoldrick Grimley was born on July 29, 1930, in Long Island, New York, to James Joseph McGoldrick and Mary Elizabeth Duke. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on January 13, 2018 in Dallas, Texas. She is predeceased by her sister Marie Malone and her husband John Joseph “Jack” Grimley. After finishing high school, she started work for Americana in New York, met Jack and married in November of 1952. Her husband’s job led them to move to Bethesda, Maryland, where their first four children, Cathy, John, Patty, and Chris were born. They then moved to Overland Park, Kansas, where Mary was born, and then to Atlanta, Georgia, where Anne and James were born. They finally settled in Dallas, Texas in December of 1966, where she remained for the rest of her life. She spent over 30 years as a sales associate in the women’s wear department at the J.C. Penney store in North Park Mall. She retired from J.C. Penney in May of 1999 at the age of 69, but maintained a keen eye for fashion over the course of her life. She was a member of the All Saints Catholic Church choir for 35 years and was a member of the All Saints Women’s Organization, where she formed a strong bond with the church community.Catherine is survived by her seven children: Cathy Murchison and her husband John; John Grimley and his wife Beverly; Patty Moothart and her husband Mike; Chris Grimley and his wife Lisa; Mary Grimley; Anne Horwitz and her husband Jay; and James Grimley. Her grandchildren include Christine Mills and her husband David, Michael Murchison and his wife Christa, Colleen Wright, Patrick Grimley, Matthew Grimley, Brenden Grimley, Alyssa Grimley, Kelli Murchison, Maggie Rosenbohm, and Sean Moothart. She has four great-grandchildren: Madilyn Murchison, Cate Murchison, Will Murchison, and Jack Friess.Catherine will be remembered for her warm and welcoming demeanor, her easy laughter, and her love of friends and family. She possessed a joy and zest for life that manifested in a love of sports, music, and dancing. Some of her (and our) fondest memories include attending family gatherings and celebrations, going on ski trips, and putting her feet in the surf at South Padre Island. She was a devoted mother and friend to many and will be sorely missed. As Catherine would always say during a toast, “Here’s to all the dears that are here, and to all the dears that are not here, my dear.”The family will receive visitors on Thursday, January 18, 2018 in the Memorial Chapel at Restland Funeral Home beginning at 6:00PM, with a rosary to follow at 7:00PM. There will be a funeral service on Friday, January 19, 2018 beginning at 2:00PM at All Saints Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, her family requests donations to be made to the Women’s Ministry of All Saints Catholic Church Women’s Organization.
