Cecil E. Smith Jr's Obituary
Cecil Edwin Smith Jr., 86, of Van Alstyne, TX, passed away on May 17, 2024. Born on August 19, 1937, near Lindale, TX. Cecil (known as “Sandy” by family and friends) had an overwhelming drive to succeed at everything he did. Beyond his rugged exterior, he was caring individual with a strong Christian spirit. He enjoyed our large extended family and cherished the time spent with them during family events and individual accomplishments. Sandy had three grandchildren that held a special place in his heart, and he was always there to support them.
Sandy had an unyielding passion for his Christian faith and was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Richardson. He deeply loved the church and its members, and his positive and persistent personality will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his dedication to his family and faith, Sandy was a devoted father to his two children, Scott Smith and Hali Millson. His children are forever grateful for the consistency and care he provided. Sandy developed a very successful business career in the Semiconductor industry starting several companies along the way.
Sandy enjoyed living life every day. He spent thousands of hours coaching his son Scott and his friends in football and baseball along with being a founder of a very successful athletic association for kids the SVAA in north Dallas. His favorite hobbies throughout his life, were golfing, watching the Rangers and Cowboys, visiting the beach in Galveston, traveling, and in his later years reading and studying the Bible.
Cecil is survived by his children Scott Smith and Hali Millson, and his grandchildren Krista Smith, Kayla Carter, and Smith Millson. He is also survived by his sister, Joy, and nephews Dwayne Reeves and Steve Reeves. Cecil was preceded in death by his parents Vivian and Cecil Smith Sr., and his sister Janelle Reeves.
An informal viewing is planned for Friday, May 24th, from 10:00 am to noon, directly followed by a brief military graveside ceremony at Restland Funeral Home on Greenville Avenue. The address is 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243.
Dad you will be deeply missed by your family, friends, and all those whose lives you touched. Your strong support and caring nature, along with unwavering Christian faith, will be remembered and cherished by all who knew you. Thanks so much Dad!
