Cecil Ray Stooksberry Sr's Obituary
Cecil Ray Stooksberry, Sr. , was welcomed into Heaven by his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on August 4, 2020. He was 89 years old.
Cecil was born on a farm in Delta County, Texas on April 15, 1931 to Viola Creamer Stooksberry and Homer Stooksberry. He graduated from Commerce High School in 1948 and quickly made his way to Dallas. He met an Oklahoma beauty, Lillie Belle Dyer, and they married on November 4, 1950. They had 4 children, 3 boys and a girl. Cecil worked for the United States Postal Service for many years, retiring in 1989. He loved the Lord and attended Shiloh Terrace Baptist Church for more than 60 years. Cecil enjoyed listening to fiddle music, camping, fixing things ( he could fix anything!), eating BBQ ( he made the best brisket!) and most of all, spending time with family. His greatest blessings called him "Grandpa" and he was the best ever! He loved attending his grandkids sporting activities ( " these games are more exciting than a Mavericks or Rangers game!) dance recitals, church and school activities, and just spending time with them. He was such a cool grandpa that he was also affectionately known as " Cool Breeze".
Cecil was the kindest, most humble, loving, gentle, wise man of great faith and he will be missed deeply.
Cecil is preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, two sons, Jerry Dean Stooksberry and Timothy Monroe Stooksberry, grandson Brandon David Rogers, three brothers, two sisters, and his parents. We can only imagine the reunion that took place!
He leaves to cherish his memory, son Cecil Stooksberry, Jr. and his wife Kim, daughter Angie Rogers, DVM and her husband, David, and daughter in law, Amy Wright Stooksberry, grandchildren Jayme Cox and her husband, Matthew; Blair McCurdy, DVM and her husband, Alex; Connor Stooksberry, Dylan Stooksberry and his fiancé, Mary Hevenor, and Courtney Stooksberry, brother Franklin Stooksberry, and great granddaughter, Olivia, and great grandson, Brennan.
Due to the pandemic, only a small graveside service will be held on Friday, August 7, 2020 at 10 am at Restland. However, a celebration of Cecil's life and legacy will occur at a later date as circumstances allow, a service that is befitting a man known as "Cool Breeze"!
