Celia Braga Nacar's Obituary
Celia Braga Nacar, of Richardson, TX, joined the Lord on Monday, January 3, 2022 at the age of 74. She reunites with her parents Octavio and Milagros Braga and her brother Jorge Braga, who preceded her in death.
Celia was born in the Philippines in the capitol city of Manila on September 19, 1947. The oldest of four siblings, she was always a natural caregiver and leader; her siblings continued to look to her for guidance throughout her life. After matriculating from the University of Santo Tomas with a Bachelor’s in Business Administration (Accounting), she focused on pursuing her dream of coming to the United States to create a better life for herself and her future family.
While waiting for her immigration visa, she worked as an accountant for a hospital in Manila where she met Jonadab “Jon” Nacar, a fellow accountant who was enamored with Celia from the moment he saw her and would eventually become her husband of 50 years.
Just a few months shy of her 25th birthday, Celia left her family in the Philippines to immigrate to the U.S. in 1972. It would be another ten years before she saw her parents or siblings again. After a few short years, she and Jon were able to purchase their first home in Oak Cliff just outside of Dallas, where their first child would be born. Two years later, they had their second child before settling down in their home in Richardson, TX, where she lived for the next 44 years until her passing.
Raising her children and working full-time as an accountant, Celia eventually found her professional home with the Department of Homeland Security where she developed many friendships that would last over the years.
Born with an inherent zest for life, Celia’s vibrant and infectious personality could light up any room. Her passion to explore led her to travel all over the United States, Europe, Australia, and of course back to her homeland of the Philippines. She also relished spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Celia’s last day with us before being admitted to the hospital was spent with all four of her grands, taking them to lunch at Jollibee (a Filipino favorite) and spending the day with them.
A devout Catholic, Celia lived a life of kindness and generosity. She never forgot her family of origin in the Philippines and sponsored other relatives to come to the U.S. She also frequently opened her home and heart to friends and family, offering support to those both near and far throughout her life. Even through hard times, her faith never wavered. As a dedicated servant, she attended St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Richardson for 35+ years and faithfully believed her walk through life was guided by our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her loving husband, Jon Nacar; son, Christopher Nacar and wife Kristen; daughter, Jocelyn Thompson and husband Jonathan; two sisters Cristina Tolentino and Aurora Limenzon; four grandchildren Elijah, Alivia, Andrew, and Edwin, as well as a host of beloved family, relatives and friends.
