Charles Etta Bell's Obituary
Charles Etta Bell, age 94, of Dallas, Texas, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 25, 2025, in Plano, Texas. Born on April 23, 1931, in Elgin, Texas, to Ruth Johnson, Charles Etta lived a life full of love, dedication, and service.
On April 6, 1968, she married Ulysses Simpson Bell in Dallas, Texas, and together they raised their beloved daughter, Alisha Bell. For 52 beautiful years, Charles Etta was a devoted and loving wife and mother.
Charles Etta moved to Dallas as a young girl and gave her life to Christ at Bethlehem Baptist Church. After graduating from Lincoln High School, she earned her bachelor's degree in 1953 from Prairie View A&M University and a master’s degree in library science in 1958 from the University of Denver. She dedicated over 36 years to the Dallas Independent School District as an educator and librarian, finding great joy in teaching and counseling countless students. Her career also took her to Europe, where she worked as a civilian librarian for the U.S. Army in Germany.
After marrying Ulysses Bell, she became a lifetime member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher and a member of the Deaconess Board. She was also a proud golden life member of Delta Sigma Theta’s Dallas Alumnae Chapter.
Charles Etta is survived by her daughter, Alisha Bell of Dallas, Texas, and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ulysses S. Bell, her mother, Ruth Johnson, her aunt and uncle, Alice and Jonas Ebbs, other aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Her warmth and wisdom touched countless lives, and her absence will be profoundly felt by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy lives on in every life she touched and in every cherished memory.
A visitation for Mrs. Bell will be held on Sunday, August 10, 2025, beginning at 12:00 noon at the Memorial Chapel at Restland Funeral Home in Dallas, Texas. A celebration of her life and funeral service will follow at 1:00 PM, followed by a repast. Charles Etta will be laid to rest at Restland Funeral Home and Cemetery.
