Charles Arthur Betzel's Obituary
On September 27, 2020, legendary Texan Charles "Charlie" Arthur Betzel was called home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Born December 25, 1932 to father, "A.E." and mother, Edna, in Breckinridge, Texas, the family settled in Arlington where Charles grew up with his two brothers, Al and Bill. After serving in the United States Air Force, Charles attended the University of Texas at Austin on the G.I. Bill, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Petroleum Engineering. After a brief stint in the Texas oil fields, he set his sights on the bright lights and big city of Dallas in pursuit of the American dream. Fortuitously landing a job with Paul Revere Life, his natural business skills and sales acumen set him on a course for destiny in the insurance industry, Later founding Charles A. Betzel and Associates, he ventured out on his own, achieving extraordinary success in true maverick fashion.
A man of principle, his charm and laugh made you feel special. While he loved to hunt and fish, he could whip up a gourmet meal to rival Julia Child. With impeccable style and taste, he cherished his humble beginnings. He often recalled his mother's ability to ring a chicken's neck in each hand in preparation for supper in the shotgun house he and his brothers grew up in. Charles Betzel was as generous as he was tall. He made it a point to find out how he could improve your life. A perfectionist, his no bull attitude only made you want to do the job right the first time! Holidays and birthdays were exceptional. So was he. Word has it that legends never die. To those of us who knew and loved him, we know it to be true. Preceded in death by parents Alvin "A.E." Betzel and Edna, brothers Alvin "Al" and his wife, Jane Betzel, and William "Bill" Betzel. Survived by wife, Margaret "Peggy" Betzel, son Joe Betzel, daughter in law Gail, daughter Andrea, son in law Henry Castro, stepdaughter Lindsay Thurman, and her husband, Justin, stepdaughter Christine Campbell, granddaughter, Bryce Thurman, and sister in law Jeanne Betzel.
