from Debbie Essary Morse, Memories of My Uncle Charles: One of my earliest childhood memories is the time that Randy & I locked ourselves in Grandmother's (pink) bathroom …I don't know how it happened because we were less than 4 years old. The significant point is that the face in the window & climbing up the ladder was Uncle Charles; he was calm & gentle as he carried me back down the ladder to my Daddy's arms. From then on, he was my hero. He could walk on his hands & do all kinds of wonderful tricks on the trampoline. He let hs kids keep snakes, mice & even an alligator. We could always pick him out when he sang @ the Dallas Cowboys's games w/ the Dallas Civic choir because of his white "blaze" of hair @ the front of al that black hair. Sometimes when visiting Dallas, we would miss seeing him because he was on duty in National Guard. When he raced motorcycles, he broke his leg. He was weary of that annoying cast & decided he knew better than the doctors that he was healed so he decided to cut it off himself. Borrowing a serrated knife from Grandmother's kitchen, he sat in the middle of the living room floor & cut it off! Yes, he was a "character"! He sweetly surprised & overwhelmed my oldest son David when he & Jane drove to Austin for David's Eagle Scout ceremony, with a canoe on top of their vehicle as a generous & thoughtful gift. But the real gift, of course, is that they were there. He was so cute & disarming at Daniel and Paige's wedding in Oklahoma. Again a special time for the whole family. With the lovely singing voice God gave him, he sang the Lord's Prayer at our wedding. In fact, all day Saturday, the day before he died, I was thinking about him, praying for him & singing the Lord's Prayer myself. Do you supposed that was the Holy Spirit reminding me of what a legacy God has given our family?! I will close w/ scripture, hoping it will give peace to Linda, Jane, Andy, Gail & all our family members: from Psalm 9:8-11 The Lord will judge the world by what is right. He will decide what is fair for all nations. The Lord defends those who suffer. He protects them in times of trouble. Those who know the Lord trust Him. He will not leave those who come to Him. Uncle Charles is now in his heavenly body, no more suffering, able to sing with the heavenly chorus! Love, Debbie
