Charles Barclay Masterson's Obituary
Charles Barclay Masterson passed away at the age of 86 on January 18th, 2024. He was born in Dallas on June 2nd, 1937, and was in the first graduating class of South Oak Cliff High School in 1955. He was the great-nephew of Bat Masterson, who was the sheriff of Dodge City, Kansas in the late 1800’s. He attended SMU and received a Bachelor of Business Administration in 1958.
In 1961 he married Elizabeth Farley and they moved to Tehran, Iran where he was an accountant with Sedco Oil Company. During this time, they had 2 boys, Raymond Barclay in 1963 and Kenneth James in 1965. Charles formed many friendships and long-lasting relationships during his time in Iran.
In 1970, the family returned to Texas and bought a house in North Dallas. He went back to SMU and received his master’s degree in accounting in 1971 while also earning his CPA license with the state of Texas in 1972. He then began a 28-year career in the industrial equipment industry that culminated with his position as Vice President and Controller of Texas Kenworth Co. From there, he launched a successful career in consulting with Lavinski Allan/Accretive Solutions where he specialized in Sarbanes-Oxley compliance and forensic accounting. He worked with numerous clients including Excel Communications, Neiman Marcus, Reddy Ice and Tyler Technologies.
Charles was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Richardson from 1970 until his passing. He coached youth soccer for 10 years and served in various roles with many organizations including the Dallas North Soccer Association and The Texas Society of CPA’s. Charles lived a life of love and faith and will be missed by all. The family would like to give special thanks to the caregivers at Presbyterian Village North and The Reserve at North Dallas.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Kathleen Masterson, his wife of 62 years Elizabeth, his sister Patricia Reese and nephew Jeff Reese. He is survived by his son Ray Masterson and his wife Rhonda and their two children Reilly and Trent; son Ken Masterson and his wife Dawn and their two children Reed and Will; nieces Kathleen Sutherland and Mary Ann Denison; and nephews Chris Reese and Jim Farley.
His funeral will be held on Tuesday, January 30th with a viewing at 1pm and a funeral service at 2:00pm at the Abbey Chapel at Restland Funeral Home and Cemetery in Dallas. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First United Methodist Church Richardson.
