Charles William McCallum Jr. “I have fought the good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7. Charles William McCallum passed away peacefully on Monday, October 24, 2016 with his loving family at his side after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease. Born October 7, 1942 to Winnye Thomason McCallum and Charles William McCallum, Sr., Charles grew up with his two brothers on the land his father farmed – land that is now Preston Trails Country Club. He attended Hillcrest High School where he lettered in both football and baseball and captained both teams. He served as president of the Junior Class and was voted Class Favorite his junior and senior years. Charles was awarded baseball and football scholarships to SMU where he lettered for three years in baseball and served as team captain. He was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity at SMU and earned a BBA in 1964. Charles spent his career in commercial real estate and formed his company, McCallum Properties, in 1971. His love of the outdoors was inspired by his parents. Charles was an avid sportsman, enjoying deer, quail and pheasant hunts, and golfing the old courses in Scotland. His passion for baseball spilled into his adult life where he coached various levels of youth baseball for many years. He was a longtime member of Bent Tree Country Club and was an early member of Prestonwood Baptist Church when the church was founded at Fretz Park Recreation Center. Charles was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife, Susan, of 42 years; his daughter, Kelley McCallum Dooley and husband Tom; his son S. Marshall McCallum and wife Kristine. He leaves behind six precious grandchildren who affectionately called him “Dadice”: Caroline Baird Bullock and husband Corey; Grayson and Griffin Baird; Jack, Robert and Henry McCallum. Also surviving him are his brothers Larry McCallum, Dick McCallum and wife Pam; sister-in-law Ann Lindsay and husband Carey; two nieces and two nephews; his loving caregivers Mark Whitman and his staff at Tophill Personal Care and also Nely Oliva. A celebration of his life will be held in the Chapel of Prestonwood Baptist Church on Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Prestonwood Baptist Church, 6801 W. Park Blvd., Plano, TX 75093 or Kanakuk Ministries, Attn: Crystal Mitchell, 1353 Lakeshore Dr., Branson, MO 65616 or the charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, Texas 75243.
