More information is available on the website: https://www.restlandfuneralhome.com/obituaries/Charles-Mccann/. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Richardson. Charlie had many careers and adventures. He was an expert in computers and in management in a family business. Not to be tied to a desk because he was an avid sailor, he left land and navigated his 39 foot boat from Houston across the gulf and down the island chain to Venezuela and then back over the course of 2 years with his wife Suzanne and later with infant Mary. He was landlocked briefly with a successful retail store, Jean Marie Gifts in Corpus Christi. But before long he was back to sea. This time via Texas A&M in Galveston. He graduated summa cum laude with a degree in marine transportation. With a handshake and blessings from President Bush, he sailed as a merchant marine in the war zone. Following that, the family moved to the Gainesville area where he helped start an animal shelter. He also managed land, horses and goats on a small farm in north Texas. Then it was a move with his family to his lifetime love: Port Aransas. He worked here remodeling houses and beginning a restoration of a beautiful Hinckley 49 sailing yacht. He taught himself to play the guitar and violin. He created very large model rockets and played baseball. The last 3 years he spent in Rockport before dying suddenly. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Noah’s Ark Animal Shelter in Gainesville, Texas or to your favorite charity.
