Charles Greenwood Roberts Jr.'s Obituary
Charles Greenwood Roberts, Jr., passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 12th. He was 87 years old. He was born September 17th, 1934, in Philadelphia PA. to his parents Charles Greenwood Roberts and Barbara Birge Roberts.
He married Barbara Marie Drew on December 21st, 1959, in Dallas, Tx.
Charles received his bachelor’s degree from Parks College of Engineering, Aviation and Technology at St. Louis University in 1962, and later earned an MBA from Embry Riddle University.
His career of 40 years took him from Dallas TX to St. Louis MO, Coronado, CA, Stuart, FL, and eventually Washington DC. He and his wife Barbara retired in 2001 to Bridgewater, VA in the Shenandoah Valley. He served in the US Army and retired as a Commander in the US Navy Reserve after 34 years of service.
Charles was a life-long member of the Episcopal Church. He was an avid stamp and coin collector and enjoyed traveling in his retirement years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, younger brother Nathan Birge Roberts, his stepfather, Sherman Henry Stearns and his favorite dog Scruffy. He is survived by his wife, his two sons John Drew Roberts, Nathan Birge Roberts, his sister Sally Stearns Walker, his two grandchildren Nathan Birge Roberts Jr. and Haley Anne Roberts, as well as several nieces and nephews.
The family requests donations to the SPCA in lieu of flowers.
