Charles Elvis Shankles' Obituary
Charles Elvis 89 had returned to live in Dallas after a stroke three years ago. Prior to that, he lived on Caddo Lake in Marion County, TX. He died Tuesday, May 17, 2011 of Alzheimer’s disease. Born in Reklaw, Cherokee County, TX on August 7, 1921 to Irving Joshua Shankles and Hortense West Shankles. He was husband, father, grandfather, and a Christian. Married to Jewel Loveda Irwin Shankles for 50 years until her death in 1997. In WWII served with Army Air Corps as a communications operator and gunner. After the war he attended classes at North Texas, A&M and SMU. From 1947-1973 he was a police officer with city of Dallas. Retired to Caddo Lake near Jefferson, TX where he was active in archeological, historical, and genealogical groups doing photography and research. Dad was a full part of his family’s lives. He will be deeply missed. Services will be at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, May 20, 2011 at Restland. Visitation is from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m, Thursday, May 19 also at Restland. In lieu of flowers, etc., the family would like for you to take your family/friends out to a meal, remember our dad and praise Jesus for His goodness. Thank you.
